Brainstorm Blog #2

For my exquisite corpse, I think I want to have some sort of underlying narrative or sequential format to it, like the sounds progress through a cohesive story (but not very obvious). I'm not too sure yet about what the story will be, but I'd like to match my soundscape to the overall feel you get from exquisite corpse art. Like the The Garden of Earthly Delights painting we discussed in class or other exquisite corpse art pieces I've seen on the MOMA website while researching for inspiration, there is an inherent amount of surrealism that each piece has due to the nature of these compiled "corpses" and art subjects.

I also think that there is an added element of horror because the images that people create when working together always looks creepy and scary because they are disjointed images smashed together to create one singular thing.

Which leads me to want to have an element of horror in my exquisite corpse soundscape as well. I think it would be fun to use a diverse group of recordings that are seemingly harmless in context to put together to imitate a feeling of surrealism or something else, especially since sound is only involved and there are no visuals for people to watch alongside.

Or, as I'm assuming a lot of the recordings from class are going to be tech related because we live in a technology abundant world, I'd like to do something with a theme on technology. Kind of like what John Cage did with Water Walk.

Another inspiration for this project: analog horror videos on Youtube!

There's been a rising trend in videos on Youtube where creators will create horror stories by compositing recordings, videos, animations, and other media they they've made on their own or borrowed from other sources; it stems from found footage horror.

These videos will usually not have a cohesive story but will use a variety of media to hint at a broader universe that viewers can theorize on. I think these types of videos are sort of like an exquisite corpse since they are an amalgamation of different media.
