For my last project, I wanted to do a chill, funny game. I originally wanted to have a couple of Netflix "shows" that you could play through or get easter eggs from but I didn't have the time to elaborate on those paths other than the main game that I did. Ultimately, I think I like what I've created and had a lot of fun creating the gifs or compositions that I put in my final project.
My favorite part of this project was creating a consistent aesthetic for each page as you went through the choices. I went for a more polished version of the 8-bit/pixel video game style and added in a transition for the text to make it look like the scroll/typing text you see in these types of games too. Like I mentioned in my brainstorm blog, my main inspiration for the look of my project was the game Project Zomboid. I think I did a good job of incorporating the look of that game into this project.
I really enjoyed getting to practice creating pixel art and making gifs in the process. Especially with the gif of the window and computer, it was good for me to practice using Photoshop more; I was able to take multiple images and composite them together into one final image. Then, I created some moving pieces like the sun to create the gif version of the composition.
Ultimately, I think if I had more time and effort, I would have like to incorporate more easter eggs, choices, and games other than the zombie. A fantasy show or a space-themed show would have diversified the project a little more and made it more fun for the player. One feature I really wanted to do but wasn't able to was having actual characters with names to make it seem more like a game; I also wanted to draw the characters outside of the pixel style and have it show up when they talked to really make it look like an actual game.
(of course, not as good as the actual Hades games)
Overall, this project gave me a lot of inspiration for art, just like the rest of the projects in this class.
